The Caldwell catalogue (1995), compiled by Patrick Moore, is a curated list of 109 deep‑sky objects selected to complement the Messier catalogue. It includes star clusters, nebulae and galaxies that are bright, visually rewarding and accessible to amateur observers, yet were omitted from Messier’s list. The Caldwell objects are therefore not a historical survey, but a deliberately chosen set of targets intended to offer a broad and engaging collection for visual and photographic observation.
